The timeless relevance of the music of legendary Canadian musician/composer/artist Joni Mitchell is undoubtedly one of the reasons why her songs have endured from one generation to the next… and now the next.
Four years ago, a group of my truly talented “chick singer” friends (Tania Bowra, Kristen Cornwell, Robyne Dunn, Rachel Gaudry, Sarah McGregor) and I produced a tribute that packed the Basement and, in fact, had people queuing around the block. Not surprisingly, the venue has been wanting us to reprise the show ever since.
So we’re back – with a superb band I might add, performing songs from the albums Ladies Of the Canyon, For The Roses, Blue, Court and Spark, Hejira, Wild Things Run Fast, Hissing of Summer Lawns, Night Ride Home, Both Sides Now and beyond.
I will be singing Help Me, Chinese Cafe, Snakes & Ladders (a duet with the inimitable Brydon Stace) and the version of “A Case of You” found on her first orchestral release “Both Sides Now”. I am very happy to say that for “A Case Of You” I will be accompanied by the awesome Bill Risby who will be screaming from another gig to be there on time to play just for me (won’t you Bill).
The show is going to be recorded for ABC Live on Stage which is very exciting.
For Joni Mitchell fans, and for anyone who loves great music, this performance is a must….
